ACT ROGAINING ASSOCIATION BULLETIN

Up Hill and Down Dale Virtualgaine results

Jon Glanville set us another superb virtual rogaine, this time around the lake and hills of Tuggeranong and Kambah. Jon found lots of hidden gems with sculptures, artwork, interesting rocks and great views. If you missed the event it is still open on MapRun. Go to the website for a map to print and instructions.

Our overall winner was TIM COCHRANE. Tim had three runs around the course.

Notible category winners were second placed Mens Youth Oscar Brown, Craig Wisdom winning the Mens Vets, Supervets and Ultravets, Alex Thorman, Charles Bootes and Cecilia Pascoe as the first mixed team, Eloise Wilson and Amber Thomas first womens team, Elizabeth Dunbar and Valerie Barker winning the Womens Vets, Supervets and Ultravets and Craig, Archie, Kerrie and Zahlia Cowan the first family team.

Winter 4hr Cancelled

Unfortunately due to location access issues at late notice the Winter 4 Hour event has been cancelled. We thank the volunteers and setters who have put time and effort into the event. The ACTRA committee won't let the setting go to waste and will endeavour to find another way to use the site for a rogaine.

Tuggeranong Hills and Playgrounds Metrogaine 4 August 2024

Mark your calendars for the annual Metrogaine on Sunday 4 August. The course is set and will give you wonderful views across the Brindabellas. Bring strong legs to conquer the hills! Event will be open to teams or solo competitors.‍

Stephen's Soliloquy

“Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this sun of York;
And all the clouds that lour'd upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.”

It’s not every day one gets to apply the words of the Bard to the sport of rogaining, but as I sit in the sunshine in far-off Leeds UK and reflect on the misfortune that has been caused by the forced cancellation of some of our recent events closer to home, the words of old take on new significance.

After the success of the ever-popular Virtualgaine it was disappointing that first a nature park booking clash, then provider illness and most recently a shortage of car parking have upset our usual schedule. Of course we try to avoid these things whenever possible, but sadly they are some of the behind the scenes factors that can cause the best laid plans to go awry.

Apologies for this break in transmission, but I am confident we will return to normal programming very soon - or as the Duke of Gloucester might have said:

 Now are our brows bound with victorious wreaths;
Our bruised arms hung up for monuments;
Our stern alarums changed to merry meetings,
Our dreadful marches to delightful measures.

Australasian Champs & InterVarsity Champs

Western Australia 7-8 Sept

A reminder that the Australasian Rogaining Champs will be ‍in SW Western Australia this year. Less than 3hrs southish of Perth and less than 1hr Bunbury. A good excuse to combine a rogaine and a visit to a region with good walking, wildflowers and wine!

The ANU will be represented at the InterVaristy Rogaining Champs this year by Elise Palethorpe and Ryan Stocks, recipients of the Nigel Aylott Memorial Sports Foundation sponsorship. ACTRA are also supporting two other ANU teams: Guyver Fu and Christopher Bradley; and hopefully Oscar Woolford and Owen Chenhall if an injury allows. Other teams are welcome too - you just need a team of people from the same university.
