ACT ROGAINING ASSOCIATION BULLETIN

Murrumbidgee Wayfaring - 15-16 March 2025

Entries are open for the 2025 Australasian Rogaining Championships.

Experience the open plains and high country bush of Northern Kosciuszko National Park on 15-16 March 2025. The ACT Rogaining Association is hosting the event and have 24 hours of fun organised for you and your friends. Situated at the northern end of Long Plain around the headwaters of the Murrumbidgee River, this area features long unburnt tall forest with grassy plains. Expect a lot of variety in this course, from limestone sinkholes to boulders with good views, a few fire trails and single tracks together with loads of untracked areas.

This course is on a 1:25,000 map and we might even give you 5 m contours to make the hills look super steep, or perhaps to provide more detail in flatter areas. We have several mappers collaborating on how best to show the vegetation detail so you can make those optimal route choice decisions at 3 am.

Visit the dedicated website for this event at https://arc2025.rogaining.au/ where you can find all the information to enter, details about a bus to the event from Canberra, photos from the setting team, and a few interesting snippets about the area. If you need a rogaine partner or are offering to car pool, we have included these options on the website.

ARC 2025 catering suggestions?‍

We are having trouble finding a caterer for the Australasian Rogaining Champs on 15-16 March 2025 (see details above). If you have suggestions for a group who might be keen or have the skills to lead a team of volunteers and are keen to take on this role please get in touch with Wendy or Julie. We have budget to pay costs and provide a tidy amount for fundraising or profit to the organisation taking it on. ACTRA also now has the equipment necessary to run the Hash House.

Virtual Rogaine at the AIS

David Baldwin has set a 45 minute virtual rogaine around the Australian Institute of Sport campus and surrounds of the Bruce Ridge Nature Park area. He is sharing this with ACTRA rogainers as we think you might enjoy it too. Perhaps something to do during the summer holidays with the family?

2025 Rogaine Calendar ‍

The first event on the 2025 ACTRA Calendar is the Twilight rogaine on Saturday 15 February 2025. Our President Stephen Goggs is the coordinator for this event and he is busy finalising the location, hopefully to return to Rob Roy Nature Park in Canberra's south.

We have moved the Paddy Pallin 6 hr from March to 13 April next year to allow us to host the Australasian Rogaining Championships at a time of the year when it may not be quite so cold.

President's Piece‍

The year may be nearly over but if all you rogainers are very good Santa will bring you a package of great events for next year. Mark your diaries now for the Twilight in February, AusChamps in March and the annual Paddy Pallin event in April. Better still, if you have any bright ideas for either new or favourite terrain you would like to run in (or you know any large landholders who would like a visit from a gang of extreme sport enthusiasts) please let me or one of your ACTRA committee members know. In the meantime we have checked all our gear, so it’s a good time to check yours - take that mouldy banana out of your daypack, replace the worn out strap on your gaiters and finally get around to assembling your plate cup and cutlery set so you’re catering-ready. See you on the other side!
Stephen

Rogaining rambles

The World Rogaining Championships will be held in in the municipalities of Quintanar de la Sierra and Neila, approx 170km N of Madrid, Spain on 5-6 July 2025. Entries will open very early in 2025. ‍You don't have to be an elite rogainer to enter - everyone will be welcome.

The ACTRA AGM in 2025 will still be held at the end of the Paddy Pallin 6 hr event on 13 April 2025, a little bit later than usual. Committee positions will be available, including for executive positions of President and Secretary.

Have you got this far and think you could draft a better newsletter or have ideas about how ACTRA can promote events? We are pretty keen to include a person keen to do publicity for us on the committee. You can even start immediately and help with promotion of the ARC2025. Please contact Julie.

The committee recently held a working bee and social lunch. We cleaned and repaired all the flags, painted pegs so they don't get lost or tripped over in the dark, scrubbed the big top on the old marquee ready for the ARC2025 and a multitude of other smaller tasks. Many thanks to Jean Douglass for organising us.

ACTRA is looking at purchasing a second trailer, this one to be dedicated to catering with a built in BBQ.
