Welcome back to rogaining for another year!
The first event this year is the annual twilight 3 hour rogaine on 17 February at Stromlo Forest Park. An evening wander around the trails and grassy areas of our nature park is always pleasant and our setters have found all sorts of interesting control locations. Gaiters or long pants are recommended as the grass is long and full of seeds in places, particularly on the eastern side of the mountain.
Entries are closed. See below for the Edit Entry button if you need to make a change to your team. The list of teams is also available at the Team List button.
Thank you for entering the 2024 Twilight in the Park 3 hour rogaine! Team leaders, make sure that everyone on your team reads this whole document carefully.
The Hash House is located at the pavilion adjacent to the criterium track at Stromlo Forest Park accessed via Uriarra road. Please note that Stromlo is a multi-use park and we do not have exclusive access to the trails or roads. Secondly, paid parking is now in effect at the Stromlo main carpark.
Please bring to the event a printed and completed indemnity form located here. Check the team list for your relevant event on the home page to ensure that all details for your team including category are correct. If incorrect, please contact the Event Contact prior to the event.
The Hash House is located at the Stromlo Forest Park Event HQ on Dave Mcinnes Drive.
From the centre of Canberra, take the Tuggeranong parkway south and take the Cotter Road exit west. Follow Cotter Road as it turns into John Gorton Drive. Turn left on Opperman Avenue and veer left at the roundabout onto Dave Mcinnes Drive.
A google map is here.
The 2024 Twilight in the Park event will commence by way of a mass start at 1800 sharp on Saturday 17 February, with a final briefing at 1745. Registration will open at 16:30.
To register and collect maps. Your team will need to:
Electronic scoring: As this event is using the Navlight system of scoring, each team member will be issued with a wristband and tag upon registration.
You will also be given pre-marked maps, control descriptions, course setter's notes and a small copy of the map to be used as a flight plan. We recommend that you arrive at least an hour prior to the start of the event to allow enough time for final preparations and route planning. Each team must mark their intended route on the flight plan and hand it in before starting.
There will be one A4 map, 1:20,000 with 10 m contour interval. Magnetic north lines are marked on the map. Out of bounds areas are marked in pink shading. It contains mainly old cleared land with patches of old pine forest. The altitude ranges from approximately 500 to 700 m.
The map is printed on Teslin paper which is very tough and generally does not need to be covered in contact. Gaiters or long pants are recommended as there are some patches of blackberries; however, these are easily avoided.
Please note that there are snakes around, the course setters have come across them and it is warm. Everyone in your team should be familiar with how to treat a snakebite in Australia. Wear gaiters for the snakes and the blackberries.
Please bring enough water for Hash House use and for at least 3 hours on course. There are no water drops on course. There is a bubbler at the top of Stromlo that has been marked, but we cannot guarantee its reliability. We do not recommend drinking any water from creeks or tributaries while on course.
ACTRA will provide catering of snacks such as fruit, cakes, mini rolls, sushi and hopefully pizza).
Other items we recommend that you carry/wear
Mobile phone coverage is good across most of the course, with the exception of down in some of the creeks in the far west of the course. If you find you have no service, simply move to higher ground and you’ll find some rather quickly.
The Hash House number will be 0457 364 319 and is printed on the map.
Food and drinks will be available from 2030.
Certificates will be awarded to the winners of each category and the place-getters of most categories. This is dependent on final numbers and will be announced on the day. Presentations will take place around 20 minutes after the end of the event.
