Fun day in the bush
Night/Day Rogaine, 29th Sep 2012

What a day! The sun was shining, with a decent wind whipping across lake George, but we were nicely shielded once in the bush. I teamed up with my dad Paul for the first time, this being his first rogaine (63 and recovering from knee surgery), and my third, but first being the primary navigator. We were in the 5 hour daylight event.
The course was great! Interesting and varied terrain and some good navigation challenges. The controls were well placed and showcased the region, a compliment to the course setters. The terrain had plenty of eucalypts and minimal brush, with surprisingly little vegetation that wanted to pull me apart.
Somehow we managed to follow almost exactly the flight plan we set out to do. We almost made it through the day mistake free until we came within maybe 20 meters of a (low value) checkpoint before deciding we must have made a mistake, only to decide we were actually right the first time, wasting 10 minutes or so, considerably better than my last rogaine effort. I got a little ambitious at the end too, trying to get that extra checkpoint and we got back to the hash house 2min late, negating all the gains we had gotten, as well as putting Paul through some serious pain. Feeling slightly guilty about it now, but no harm done!
So in short, great day, great course, great organisation, cant ask for much more than that! Cant wait for the next one
