 Course Description

The Autumn event brings rogainers back to the beautiful Tarlo River National Park, which last hosted an ACTRA event in 2005. There are three events on offer this time round, with 6-hour and 12-hour events commencing at midday, and a 5-hour event commencing at 7pm for those wanting to focus only on nighttime navigation. The Hashhouse will be located in a woolshed off Long Swamp Road, near Greenwich Park. Tarlo River National Park is visited by few due to its limited public access, and offers ideal rogaining conditions with virtually no undergrowth. Many of the creek beds are fast travelling, and there are scenic views at some of the higher points. Several sections of the Tarlo River have lovely grassy banks and casuarina trees, and there is an incredible conglomerate rock outcrop in the east of the map. Wildlife spotted by the course setters include kangaroos, wallabies, and emus! Five and twelve hour competitors in particular are encouraged to camp by the Hash House after the event's midnight conclusion.

Navigation and Rogaine Skills Workshop

 

    6-7 April 2013 (2 day workshop + minirogaine)    

   General Information

The ACT Rogaining Association is running a two-day navigation and skills workshop, catering for beginners through to experienced rogainers wanting to improve their skills. The workshop venue is ACT Sports House plus two Canberra nature parks on the Saturday (times approx 8:30 to 4:30, then from 7:30 to 9:30pm), and at Googong dam on the Sunday (8:30 to 4:00).

Improve your day and night navigation and learn some of the secrets to planning and having a good rogaine. The workshop is run by some of Australia's best rogainers including current World champions. Practical sessions are conducted in small groups to afford opportunity for one-on-one coaching. Numbers will be capped at 40.

 Course Description

Come and experience the iconic Lake George. Watch out for the kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, deer, cattle and two legged wanderers as you navigate your way through an interesting landscape. The course caters for both the beginner and more experienced rogainer with open farmland and undulating bushland. Some of the high points provide some great scenic views of the area. Enter one event or enter both, take your pick! It's two entirely seperate events, but the same map will be used. Camping is permitted for those that wish to stay overnight, and it's free. An awesome opportunty to practise your night and your day navigation without losing too much sleep. If you wish to enter both events, please submit 2 individual entries. The rogaine is being held solely on private land so a huge thankyou goes out to the land owners who have granted access.

 Course Description

State Forest near Batemans Bay


Put away your winter woolies and get out your singlets and t-shirts (you may even want to bring your swimmers) ready for this years Spring 6/12hr event. To be held around the idyllic Shallow Crossing campground, this event will be perfect for anyone wanting to get away for the weekend (with or without the kids) and experience some great spring weather near the coast. Not only will we have the regular post-event food extravaganza but for those staying overnight and making the most of the weekend we will also be aiming to provide the 12 hr competitors with breakfast to make the trip well worth it (an optional extra for 6 hr teams who also wish to camp).
The course will be challenging in parts but will be massively rewarding for those who make the effort to explore the higher areas. There are wonderful clear bushland areas and lovely creek systems but a few areas of undergrowth which will be challenging.
The event will be held exclusively in State Forest and will be a 2 hr drive from Canberra. The camp ground will offer plenty of camping space, hot showers and toilets and sits adjacent to the Clyde river, so bring your swimmers or your paddle boats and enjoy the area. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

 Course Description

2012 TUGGERGAINE!

This year we returned to the south of Canberra for the 2012 Metrogaine.

After thawing out from our fabulous 4 hour winter event, teams enjoyed the spectacular views of the Brindabella and surrounding ranges from the numerous vantage points offered by our course setter Glenn Bridgart.

Glenn included some wonderful undulating bushland areas with a mix of lower lying easily traversed pathways and tracks leading to a range of interesting control sites.

This event was ideally suited to both the casual 'out for a stroll' first timer, but, at the same time gave our dedicated 'dencorub junkies' a chance to prove their worth!

Some areas of the course were new to both the orienteering and rogaining fraternity and were enjoyed by all.
